The Institute of Soil Sciences, Plant Nutrition and Environmental Protection performs scientific research and expertise in the following fields:
- long-term (monitoring studies) and short-term (e.g. after industrial failures) analysis of the impact of industrial and mining facilities (historical, existing and planned) on the quality of soils and plants,
- identification of soil and plant pollution and an assessment of ecologicall risk assessment,
- the scope of remediation (rehabilitation) of degraded sites and soils,
- preliminary tests preceding the legal certification and registration of soil improvers and organic fertilizers (assessment of the suitability of materials interms of physical, chemical and toxicological conditions), including the suitability of waste products (organic and mineral), composts, biochar, humic preparations, etc.,
- assessment of the new fertilizer and improver influence (and their mixtures) on soil properties, yield and plant quality, along with determining optimal doses,
- increasing the availability of macro and micronutrient reserves in soil for plants,
- selection and development of research methodology for soils, substrates, waste and fertilizing materials as well as plants and plant products.
The laboratories of the Institute, in particular the Environmental Quality Analytical Center (CAJS), accredited by the Polish Centre for Accreditation (PCA), offer a comprehensive physicochemical and chemical analysis of soils, waste, sewage sludge, fertilizers, water and sewage, soil, sewage sludge, materials of plant and animal origin and others.
