General information

Soils are essential for terrestrial life and vice versa products of terrestrial life. Soils contribute to stabilize the climate via their water and carbon households, they provide sites and nutrients to plant growth and with this they are irreplaceable for crop growth to feed the human kind. In addition to that, soils are the fundament for terrestrial biodiversity. Without soils terrestrial live is not imaginable as we experience today.

Nevertheless, mankind is deteriorating the soil resources world wide to an extent that endangers our livelihood. Soils are excavated, sealed, covered by technogenic material that becomes parent material to future soils by itself, contaminated, eroded and much more. The Commission 3.5 of the International Union of Soil Sciences is committed to work on concepts to overcome this challenge. The commission is dedicated to revitalize deteriorated soils. This workshop shall bring together researchers, engineers, consultants, stakeholders and decision makers facing the challenges of revitalizing soils for a worth living future.
